TV Series: My recommendations

Everybody loves series, it last longer than a movie and the plots are better explored… Although not every TV show is actually so good that you want to watch every single episode of it, there are a few that I totally loved and I want to suggest to you. Probably will be here some that you don't know… But here it goes (They are presented in no special order):
  • firefly
Plot:
Five hundred years in the future, a renegade crew aboard a small, mobile, spacecraft tries to survive as they travel the unknown parts of the galaxy and evade warring factions as well as authority agents out to get them.
Comment: It's a pity that the show got cancelled and there are only 13 episodes. Even if lots of questions are left I advice you to watch this series. After that you can also watch the movie >>Serenity.
  • babylon5
Plot:
A space station in neutral territory is the focus of a unique five year saga.
Comment: Imagine a movie, now imagine a movie that would go for five years, not a single plot… But deep characters exploration. A must see!
  • niptuck
Plot:
Sean McNamara and Christian Troy are two plastic surgeons running a partnership in Miami, Florida with different issues to life. Sean is a wishy-washy, weak-kneed, family man who distances himself with work to avoid his dysfunctional home life which includes his needy and spiteful wife Julia, his rebellious teenage son Matt and young daughter Annie. The more slicker Christian is an arrogant, narcissistic, unethical, ladies man who worships wine, women, and the all mighty dollar, and will do just about anything to get what he wants (lie, cheat, steal, blackmail and seduce)and has no qualms about practically anything)
Comment: Do you like gory scenes, do you like twisted plots full of secrets and each one better than the last one? Well if you do, you definitely have to see this one.
  • coupling
Plot:
On average, men and women think about sex every six seconds. Shorten that to every second, and you've got Coupling. It's more than just a one night stand!
Comment: The only comic series I'm suggesting, but believe me it's worth it. Jeff will make you laugh with strange things like the sock gap, the giggle loop or the nudity buffer.
  • Carnivale
Plot:
As America suffers through the brunt of the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression in 1934, a young man with a mysterious past takes a job at a road show circus, who harbors powerful psychic abilities, the same as a dedicated reverend just settling down in a small town on the opposite side of the country.
Comment: I started to watch this one and I'm already totally addicted, the plot is interesting and definitely it's a really well spent hour when you watch this.
  • house
Plot:
An antisocial maverick doctor who specializes in diagnostic medicine does whatever it takes to solve puzzling cases that come his way using his crack team of doctors and his wits.
Comment: Who doesn't know Doctor House? Everyone does! The most arrogant yet kickin' ass doctor in TV. Not only entertaining but also teaches you lots of strange diseases.
  • bandOfBrothers
Plot:
The story of Easy Company of the US Army Airbourne Paratrooper division and their mission in WWII France during Operation Overlord.
Comment: It's a mini-series but it's worst watching for the realism and characters exploration!

All plots are quoted because they were retrived from >>imdb.

Nip/Tuck awsome House awsome Carnivale awsome

I would also suggest: <b>Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip</b> (just started running in the states so I don't know if you guys can get it...) - Mathey Perry is hilarious in his TV comeback

<b>Numb3rs</b> - really cool and geeky show about using math to solve crimes. Sometimes the characters are a bit dry but other than that it is a really interesting and intriguing show

<b>The Close</b> - another crime show but this time we are not presented with the forensics of the crime (eg CSI franchise) but instead we see an investigator who is A) a woman, B) gets the truth out of ya no matter what, C) is from the south, D) is extremely blunt.

<b>Psych</b> - a commedy about a self proclaimed psychic detective who just happens to have a really sharp mind and no psychic abilities what so ever

<b>Monk</b> - well nothing beats a OCD (opsessive compulsive disorder) detective who can't shake hands becuase of germs :).

Hello Boris,

Long time I didn't see you! How's it going? Weren't you supose to travel to Europe? I'm still waiting for you to drop by Portugal.

Well first things first, this wiki does not support HTML tags, I don't want people like me injecting stuff. Although as you can read in snipsnap-help you can achieve achive bold formatting you only need to type __bold__.

Regarding the series you have suggested I know Monk - I've seen some episodes it's pretty cool - and Numb3rs just reached Portugal (it's replacing House) I've just seen one episode but didn't like it very much, maybe I'll give it another try.
The Close and Psych are not going on portugue cable TV but I'll try to get my hand on them.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Heh :) bold is the shit bold Btw it is The Closer not the The Close… misspelled there for a second :). Not that I promot piracy or anything but tvtorrents.com is the best source of tv stuff from past to present shows in full seasons and episodes.

I really need to watch some of them, but DVDs are so expensive Osmiley

Btw, I've seen Serenity last week and it's pretty good. Not superb. Not fantastic. But good smiley

Cheers, jff

Well jff, if you wait for the right moment most of the times you buy DVDs for a fair price, you just have to be patient!

As I already told you, Serenity looses much when you haven't seen the series, my advice to you is to watch firefly (I can borrow you my series box if you want to) and then watch Serenity again.

Right now Firefly is borrowed to jps, maybe he can tell here what he thinks of it(unless he's too busy programming in .NET).
